This is an activity based course providing vital written skills for anyone required to write professional business documents. It should be noted that this course is a professional development course and word processors are not used.

By the end of this one day course delegates will have gained skills in:

Cover sheet and title page, Acknowledgements, Table of contents and summaries, Methodology and results, Conclusions and recommendations, Appendices and bibliographies

Constructing Letters

Replies to enquires, Handling complaints, Achieve action, Sounds original

The essential skills

Conventions for typed documents, planning a letter, How to start and close, Transitional paragraphs

The stages

Clarifying the objectives and researching, Planning and writing, Editing and proof-reading

Getting the objectives clear

Defining the scope and purpose of a report, writing a statement of objectives

Planning and formatting

Methods and use of outlines, Use of styles, fonts and setting up internal standards

Internal documents overview

Letters and emails, Memos and faxes, Reports and minutes

The use of language

Spelling and vocabulary, Generalisation, distortion and deletion
