Customised Training Case Study

Uniq Prepared Foods, Northampton

What training was required?

The Quality Supervisor (QS) grade is charged with ensuring that the products produced by Uniq match the highest of food hygiene standards and the expectations of their customers. This had often led to challenge and conflict from within the production areas of the company, as they strive to meet production targets. The need was to upskill the QSs grade to handle challenge and conflict in a way that was constructive and continued to support the aims of the other areas of the company. The QS grade work a range of shifts and also face a range of differing challenges depending on which business area they face off to. It was clear from the outset that a generic conflict management programme would not fully address all needs.

What was the solution provided by Paradise?

Paradise designed a customised programme in three stages:

  1. Research – the aim of this stage was to gain an insight into the role each QS played. This was undertaken by job shadowing and conducting individual 1:1s with each QS. Establishing the specific requirements of each QS.
  2. Support – the aim of this stage was to provide attendees with the tools to identify and successfully manage their conflict challenges. This involved 1:1 training input and provided the scope for discussion and resolution of QS specific challenges.
  3. Feedback – at the end of stage 2 each QS was given a role specific case study scenario to complete, this was assessed prior to attendance on stage 3. The feedback session, again 1:1 measured how much had been transferred into the ‘real’ work place and created an individual development plan for each QS.

The programme was delivered to suit the shift patterns of the QS grade and included separate briefings with QS line management to ensure that all development plans where owned once the programme was complete.

Going Forward?

The success of the programme with the QS grade has resulted in the development of similar programmes for Line Managers and Team Leaders from within the production areas.

Paradise also provides a 12 month free Service Desk provision for training programme attendees. This they can call on to discuss the content of their programme and gain additional insight, ensuring that the programme is effectively embedded into the workplace.
